Thank you ALPFA Chicago!

ALPFA Chicago prides itself for having outstanding members but for also helping those who we have, in one way or another, impacted in thier careers.

Please read the following letter from a grateful ALPFA member:

When I first moved to the U.S. in 2001 I would have never thought I would pursue a college degree in economics. I thought I would become a famous architect some day, but after a year of architecture studio classes, I realized my passion did not lie there. I decided to study business economics and finance mainly because of my parents’ business professional experience. But were it not for the help of ALPFA, I would not be where I am today.

I consider myself extremely blessed by the opportunities this great organization has provided me.The ALPFA chapter at my home school (The University of Illinois at Chicago) is known as LABS, which stands for the Latino Association of Business Students.I remember some fun, motivated and active student leaders who were a part of the organization suggested me to become a member.I went to countless presentations and networking events where they stressed the importance of internships, relationships, and leadership in the business world, especially among Latinos.I have been a student member of ALPFA for three years and have learned so much about the business world. I learned about resume writing, interviewing, communication skills, and public speaking among many other things. I went to the 2008 ALPFA convention in Phoenix, Arizona where I met many interesting individuals from various organizations. The atmosphere was fun, highly energetic and full of Latin flavor (the salsa competition was phenomenal!). At the end of the conference I interviewed with companies such as Kraft, Microsoft, and Morgan Stanley for summer internships.I accepted a position as a summer analyst with Morgan Stanley and had the time of my life working in New York City. During the internship, I met great people from other schools including MIT, VCU, Scranton, Bentley University, Howard University, Penn State University and many others, as well as an array of experienced business professionals within the firm.

I think of ALPFA as the key to a world of endless possibilities that are waiting to be unlocked by hardworking, disciplined and motivated student leaders and professionals. I have been fortunate to have found this key, that has lead me to intern at institutions such as JPMorgan Chase in Chicago and Morgan Stanley in New York City. In fact, I will be moving to New York City in June 2010 to start my career with Morgan Stanley as an analyst the Financial Control Group. I am grateful and honored to have been offered such a position, especially during such difficult economic times of high unemployment. I look forward to the new chapter of my life that lies ahead upon graduation. I extend my warmest wishes and much success in future endeavors to Rafael and Andres Romero who have mentored me over the years, as well as Dennis Villon, Erik Blaubach, Nando Costa, Carlos Otero, Cristobal Lozano, Daniel Arosemena and the many other students and professionals whom I have had the privilege to get to know through ALPFA. They, in addition to my classmates and friends of LABS have helped me grow as a student, a leader, and a business professional during the past three years. Thank you all for your unconditional support and advice. I look forward to helping future business leaders grow just as ALPFA has helped me and to many years of much shared success.
